When I die

Do not bury me in a coffin,
do not burn me when I'm dead,
do not enclose me in a burial box
and do not keep the dead in view for the living;
let my lifeless body lay bare on the Earth
and breathe without breathing,
let my soul have one last glance
at the glory-devoid piece of skin and bones that used to be me,
and let it find solace in another place.
Dig for me a hole
where the ground is soft and warm for growth, and
place me on my bed of flowers
where the sky is blue and without clouds-
then sing me my lullaby, a reminder of home;
touched by warmth I could no longer feel
but one that the soul fondly remembers,
I shall dissolve in time.
Do not bury me in a coffin
or keep me in a terrible casket,
but expose me to the Earth, soiled and raw
and unenclosed in claustrophobic boxes.
Let me go back to the beginning of the end again.
Fare my soul well but do not grieve the physical form,
thus bid me goodbye without grand gestures-
let me dissolve back to Earth in a hole dug
for my body to rot and soul to reach its safest place.
